Leadership matters. But you can't lead alone. One of the truths is that if you find leadership to be lonely, you are doing it wrong!

​Much has changed over the past twenty years. The level of trust in leaders is at an all time low, and decreasing. Matched by greater scrutiny and heightened expectations that together result in the decline of average CEO tenure (to now less than 2 years!). Externally and within our enterprises changes are happening more quickly, rendering plans and public statements quickly obsolete. Systemic causes and effects are more visible yet can neither be ignored nor predicted. Meanwhile failure to provide social media commentary is often taken as 'absence' from post or responsibilities. Employees and beyond want to know who we are and what we stand for; they can trawl through a lifetime's worth of actions and statements highlighting inconsistencies that some may argue simply demonstrate personal growth. Truth and opinion increasingly are indistinguishable and influence is often driven by automated 'bots'. In this context we must continuously evolve; lessons learned from prior experiences (whether our own or others) may have diminishing relevance. Yet it is a period of renewal and revival. Values and meaning increasingly expected and accepted as our navigational guides.​

Break the cycle of dysfunction. Unresolved interpersonal tensions cost results. Identify, confront, and fix the issues undermining your team.

Raise the bar. Define what exceptional looks like—and call out anything less. Commit to continuous improvement. Embed learning into your leadership DNA.

​Shape the culture you want. Every leader casts a shadow, within that shadow others adapt often conforming and mimicking. To shape the culture that you want, you must know and critique the shadow you cast and then be choiceful, clear and consistent in the living the changes that you want to see. Culture cascades down throughout the organisation, it starts with you.
