What distinguishes 4IR is not technology; every industrial revolution has been driven by technological evolution, rather it is the opportunity to harness converging technologies in order to create an inclusive, human-centred future. In 4IR we have changed how we think about risk. The risk of not moving fast enough, of not participating early enough in a project or venture or of not scaling enough to become the dominant platform. In 4IR the critical scare resource is not financing but talent. This book is a handbook of management practices and leadership competencies required to win in 4IR. It is illustrated throughout with examples and anecdotes from corporations today; 4IR is already here. Most of the examples are from major global corporations, often firms with significant heritage that have nonetheless responded to the challenges of managing in this accelerating environment. These examples thereby being relevant both for long established entities as well those founded much more recently. The intent is that the reader will continually ask themselves the question ‘how can this be applied in my company?’
