4. Seize & Replicate Capabilities.
The capabilities to recognise, seize upon and replicate new insights are essential to an organisations ability to adapt and prosper in a dynamic, changing and uncertain context. Yet, many organisations, having split themselves into functional specialists, territories and business units, are beset by cross-silo and matrix tensions, and as a result move increasingly slowly; Predictability prevents Agility. Our support has three main themes:
Team-of-Team. The best and fastest way to apply skills and knowledge where are they most needed is to directly deploy the most relevant people. Often those have been engaged in solving similar situations elsewhere. Yet, many organisations, prefer to try to pass knowledge from one group to another and reinvent locally what has already been experienced elsewhere. The conditions for the fluid allocation of resources requires mind-set, metrics and rewards that emphasise that whilst people have a ‘home team’ they will often add most value when deployed into multi-functional, cross border project teams.
Our support focuses on supporting the leadership to develop and embed a strong doctrine of teaming across the organisation, such that all individuals deploying to a team immediately understand how to integrate to collectively function at their best. Our approach is to initially work with the senior executive team such that they adopt and role-model the desired behaviours of the teaming doctrine. We then provide support to cascade the doctrine through the organisation, for large organisation that is most efficiently achieved through an approach of ‘train-the-trainer’.
Structure for Growth: Clustering and administering groups of markets by similarity of dynamics. Many organisations cluster business units or markets for administrative convenience or geographic proximity, occasionally by key clients or channels. For example, the ‘EMEA; Europe, Middle East & Africa’ region or ‘APAC; Asia Pacific’ region. The market conditions and dynamics of business in Kinshasa may be very dissimilar to those in London, yet the EMEA leadership team is tasked with transferring knowledge and applying best-practice in the pursuit of business growth.
We support leadership teams to identify the most appropriate design principle for the growth of their business, and to then redraw the organisation structures to optimise performance. Our approach starts with understanding the differences in the dynamics of the customers & channels and then considering what are the actions that enable the client to out-perform competitors.
Create the Future: Deliberate actions to shape market evolution. As Abraham Lincoln said, “the best way to predict the future is to create it”. We support leadership teams to identify and decide upon actions and sequences of steps to influence the evolution of market and competitive dynamics; to mitigate perceived risks or to foster opportunities for growth.
Our support is primarily provided through constructing and facilitating war-gaming, role-plays. The outcome of this support is a significantly deeper understanding and insight of the forces that are shaping the evolution of the sector (or market) and their interplay.
Our support is primarily provided through constructing and facilitating war-gaming, role-plays. The outcome of this support is a significantly deeper understanding and insight of the forces that are shaping the evolution of the sector (or market) and their interplay.
The focal point of such support is typically a two-day war-gaming workshop; this is preceded by 4 weeks of preparation and followed by 3-4 weeks of analysis and insight confirmation.
Our unique facilitative approach delivers 200% value for our clients:
